Alma 31

Here's another go at using the blog to reflect on my reading for my Book of Mormon class!

We arrive in Alma 31 just after Korihor the Anti-Christ has been Mufasa'd.

Now it's the Zoramites that are causing trouble! Specifically, their leader Zoram is teaching the people to worship "dumb idols". This makes Alma not such a happy camper. Also the Zoramites are moving into land near the Lamanites, which makes the Nephites worried that the Zoramites and Lamanites will form an alliance against them. Alma makes sure that everyone is taught the gospel because that unifies people more than any other political strategies.

Alma, Ammon, Aaron, Omner, Amulek, Zeezrom, Shiblon, and Corianton all go out to preach among the Zoramites. The Zoramites don't keep the commandments of God, they don't go to church, they don't pray, and the pervert the ways of the Lord.

And now stuff starts getting weird.

Alma & Co. show up to the land of the Zoramites and see that the Zoramites have built synangogues that they go to once a week for really weird services. At the front and center of their churches they basically have a platform big enough for one person - called the Rameumptom -  to go up and shout to Heaven a pre-written prayer about how God has no body, and that there will be no Christ, and that the Zoramites will be saved while everyone else is damned.

Alma & Co are not so amused.

The Zoramites never talk about God except for in their weekly services, have their hearts set riches, and are prideful.

Alma is very sad about how unrighteous the Zoramites are and prays that the Zoramites will repent and that he and his band of missionaries will be able to get their message through to the Zoramites. The Lord answers Alma's prayer, and Alma & Co. separate to go teach the people of Zoram, and all their afflictions are swallowed up in Christ.
